Selon la légende, un jour que saint Martin passait par le Pilat, son cheval mit le pied sur cette pierre et aussitôt il fit un bond gigantesque qui l'emmena sur un autre rocher, loin au nord-ouest, situé aujourd'hui à côté du barrage du Sapt. Et saint Martin fit ainsi plusieurs bonds de suite, de pierre en pierre. Depuis, on emmène sur ces cailloux les enfants qui tardent à marcher, on leur arrose les jambes avec l'eau qui stagne dans un bassin, et le miracle s'accomplit. Les mauvaises langues vous diront que les parents, fatigués de porter leurs marmots dans la dure montée vers le Crêt de Chaussitre, les lâchaient au retour et, vaille que vaille, les gamins étaient bien obligés de marcher s'ils voulaient rentrer au bercail. Mais n'écoutez pas ces discours mécréants !
Cette Pierre Saint-Martin fut bien sûr marquée d'une croix, qui disparaît et réapparaît (volée par des impies, remplacée par des bonnes âmes) au fil des temps. Aujourd'hui elle bénéficie en plus de panneaux didactiques racontant toute son histoire et ses légendes. Les lieux sont propices à la rêverie.
