You're invited to Gilby, ND for some caching fun!
The first event I attended was in 2008. At the end of that event, they asked where we should do the next one. I said, "how about Gilby?" For some reason, they laughed. Well, 12 years later, I am finally having an event in Gilby with a "push" from some caching friends. I was told I will also be putting out several new caches. We will be at the park telling stories and giving out hints to the caches in the area if anyone needs a nudge. We will have a few games to keep you busy if you stick around the park. We hope to see you there. Please log how many will be coming with you.
12 p.m. - Event officially begins!
All are welcome to start caching earlier if desired.
12-4 p.m. - Explore Gilby!
Head out with familiar faces or new friends to find one of over 100 caches in the surrounding area. The park is reserved for our group for the duration of the event (12-6 p.m.) and will be open to anyone who wishes to swap stories, trade trackables, meet fellow cachers, and get (or give) hints regarding nearby caches.
4 p.m. - Late lunch / early supper!
We will supply brats/buns, chips, individual desserts, condiments, bottled water, plates, napkins, and hand sanitizer. Please bring your own beverage. There will be a jar available for those who wish to donate money to cover the cost of the meal, but it is not required.
5:30 p.m. - Door Prizes / Group Photo / Event Ends
IMPORTANT DETAILS: PLEASE READ
Amenities in Gilby
At last official count, Gilby had a population of 237. There is a bar and hardware store that sells pop, sandwiches, candy, and pizzas. There is a credit-card-only gas pump. We will have at least one portable toilet at the park.
COVID-19 Considerations
We encourage attendees to follow the ND Smart Protocols to reduce potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, including:
- Use social distancing to maintain a distance of 6 feet between others in all areas of the park, and the wilds of Gilby.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of the elbow. Used tissues should not be placed inside geocaches.
- Please wear a face mask whenever possible. Bonus points if you have a geocaching-themed mask!
- Hand sanitizer will be available at the park throughout the day but we encourage you to bring your own to use while out geocaching.
