This is a Community Celebration Event. Besides celebrating geocaching's 20 th anniversary, we are also celebrating the fact that we are still here and still geocaching after all that has happened in the past year. We are not done with COVID-19 yet, we are holding this event outside as a matter of caution, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Welcome to First Thursdays in Columbia (FTIC)!
This is a monthly event on the first Thursday of every month in Columbia, Maryland.
We will be meeting on Thursday May 6 from 1800 hrs to 2000 hrs in the same location as April's event, an area that is well lit and is adjacent to the new Merriweather District parking garage. In case the weather gets dicey this will allow us to move into the garage and stay dry! Come when you can and leave when you must
All attendees are expected to bring and wear a mask/face covering to protect others, and practice social distancing guidelines. Please bring a folding chair and if you desire to log any of the nearby geocaches, a flashlight would be helpful.
This is a simple meet and greet for geocachers in and around Columbia, Maryland. Anyone and everyone is welcome.
The Merriweather Irregulars use the FTIC events for meeting fellow cachers, planning trips, recommending caches and giving tips, to name a few... Although we’ve normally met at the food court in the Columbia Mall, because of our social distancing concerns during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve moved the location to the parking lot just south of Merriweather Post Pavilion.
If you are hungry, there is a good variety of fast food restaurants in the food court in the Mall and around the Mall for all tastes and desires.
Special features: A raffle of geocaching related items. Mental and/or mathematical computation exercises may be required to additionally claim some raffle “prizes.” Attendees are encouraged to bring trackables to discover or swap. If you pick up a Travel Bug or trackable coin at the event, make sure you log it out so it doesn't show up in the event list. Please do not leave a trackable at the event unless you have arranged with another attendee to take the trackable.
Special equipment required: a mask/face covering, a chair (if you wish to sit), ropes and other climbing gear (if you chose to climb the garage wall to an upper floor, should we retire there during inclement weather), paper and pencil (if unsure that you can perform mental gymnastics that may be thrust upon you during the event without them). Also dress appropriately for the weather (sun, cloudy, rain, snow, brisk winds, hurricane, or tornado).
