Geocache Description:

23 May 2020, 17:00 - 18:00

Welcome to the 5th Annual May Mammoth Mardle - New Venue

Following the success of the last four a 5th had to follow.

Although the Mardle Event is on Saturday the 23rd May 2020 at 5pm-6pm There are a large number of Geocachers camping on site over the whole weekend. Due to the popularity in past years the reputation and value of this camp site has meant that there are only limited non electric spaces remaining (and a reserve list for electric) . There is always a chance of a cancellation and a reserve list, so details are included of the camping too.
There is always an option to camp nearby, a hotel or just visit for the day. All are welcome any time to any of the below activities.

Outline details currently (subject to alteration)

Friday - 11am - Site opens at 10am
Friday - Evening - Pub is open for meet and greet / socialising.

Saturday Evening 5pm - 6pm - Main Geocaching Event Mardle - At the same time there will be a Communal BBQ open to campers and visitors alike. Bring your own food (and drink!) also - this is weather permitting. If the weather plays a part the pub is available for the event.

Sunday Evening 6:30pm Onwards - Quiz for campers and day visitors - Open to all. Limits on team sizes. Prizes for winners (and losers).

This event is designed to be a social gathering organised by Geocaching Adventures: Norfolk / Suffolk & East Anglia Group open to all locally and beyond new cachers and regulars alike.

Camping and electric hookups are on a first-come-first-served basis.

Q What is a 'Mardle'?

A Mardle is a name given to a monthly meeting of Geocachers from the Norfolk and Suffolk area. They are held at different locations every month. The word means to chat or natter and seems very appropriate for the monthly gatherings. This one differs in being a camping weekend, so a slightly prolonged natter.

Q What will be going on?

A This is a relaxed weekend but I am sure there will be some group cache trips from the site each day and possibly some coaching on puzzle caches, of which there are loads nearby. Evening events are listed above.

Q How much does this all cost?

A We have managed to secure the site for £11 /night (motorhome/caravan and £6 tent/night. With additional cost for electric of £4 night.

Q How do I book it?

A The easiest way is via the Facebook page or you can contact me by message and I will send a booking form to you. We require a £10 non refundable deposit to secure your pitch.

Q Why do I need to fill in a booking form?

A To ensure the site is not over subscribed and everyone has space. Plus it includes site rules and safety information.

Q Can I bring a pet?

A Of course! Cats, dogs, rabbits, snakes, parrots- whatever you like. As long as dogs are under control, on a lead and any fouling is cleared away. (I'm not sure how that works for a snake though).

Q Are there bins?

A Yes

Q Can I have visitors?

A It is fine for you to have visitors during your stay. If they could park near the village hall at the entrance crescent as to not over fill the campsite area, or in the event of foul weather, churn the field more than necessary.

Q When can I arrive and when must I leave?

A You can arrive from 10am on Friday the 24th May, and departure is by 2 pm 27th May. But with prior arrangement you can prolong your stay direct with the site owner up to the 2nd June at the same daily rates. Pitches are also available prior to the weekend also at a discounted rate.  If anyone is taking this option please ensure they have contacted the site owner to book and mention the Geocaching group in order for a discounted rate.  Plus, inform the event organiser to ensure you are pitched right to save having to re-pitch when the rally field commences.

Q Can I log that I attended this event if I only came to the Mardle Day Event or pop in whilst the camping is taking place?

A Yes!

Q Is it wheelchair/pushchair friendly?

A Yes, most of the site is flat and short grass. There is a small step for access to the toilet areas and there is a disabled toilet facility.

Any other questions please feel free to ask. By replying to the Event listing as "Attending", implies you are attending the event. Please contact the Event Organiser either via Geocaching message or the Facebook group to check for availability and space. Any contact and arrangements made direct with the site owner does not stand as we have hired the entire site for the duration and have the site planned for maximum pitch layout.

Happy Mardling and Happy Camping!!
