Geocache Description:

AGT(G) - Ponte do Crato

A ponte à nossa frente data do século XV e atravessa o rio Caia. É a Ponte do Crato.

Arronches is a Portuguese village in the District of Portalegre, in the Alentejo region and in the Alto Alentejo sub-region, with about 1 900 inhabitants.

It is the capital of a municipality with an area of 314.65 km² and 3 165 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 3 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Portalegre, to the east by Campo Maior, to the south by Elvas, to the west by Monforte and to the northeast by Spain.

The village is located on the banks of the Caia River, which rises in the Serra de São Mamede, between the parishes of Reguengo and Ribeira de Nisa in the municipality of Portalegre, going into the right bank of the Guadiana in the municipality of Elvas.

The bridge in front of us dates from the 15th century and crosses the Caia River. Anyone who wants to go to Assumar has to cross it. It may not be the most imponent bridge, but it is beautiful in its simplicity, made of granite and with round arches, it fits perfectly into the landscape of the Caia River and Arronches. It is called the Crato Bridge.
