Esta torre, construida en la época de Felipe II, se ubica en el cabo de las Palomas, y forma parte de la red de torres vigía. Tenía relación visual con la Torre de San Telmo, demolida cuando se construyó la carretera de Málaga a Almería, y que se localizaba en un ligero promontorio rocoso, a cota elevada, sobre el cauce del arroyo Jaboneros. Los avances de la ingeniería del siglo XIX, permitieron que el trazado de la nueva carretera evitase las fuertes pendientes del camino de Vélez, y recuperan en gran medida el trazado romano que prácticamente vadea el litoral, con lo que la carretera discurre muy cerca de la torre. Está localizada dentro del complejo kárstico de El Candado-La Araña; los restos arqueológicos dan testimonio del paso de todas las culturas y pueblos que se han asentado en este territorio fronterizo. En contraste con muchas torres del litoral malagueño, es de destacar que la Torre de Las Palomas conserva aún la vegetación mediterránea propia, habiendo escapado hasta el momento del proceso de urbanización y embellecimiento mal entendido de estas construcciones patrimoniales.
This tower, built in the time of Felipe II, is located at the end of Las Palomas, and is part of the network of watchtowers. It had a visual relationship with the San Telmo Tower, demolished when the road from Malaga to Almeria was built, and which was located on a slight rocky promontory, at an elevated height, on the Jaboneros stream. The advances of the nineteenth-century engineering allowed the layout of the new road to avoid the steep slopes of the Vélez road, and largely recovered the Roman layout that practically wades along the coast, so that the road runs very close to the tower. It is located within the karstic complex of El Candado-La Araña; the archaeological remains testify to the passage of all cultures and peoples that have settled in this border territory. In contrast to many towers of the Malaga coast, it is noteworthy that the Tower of Las Palomas still retains its own Mediterranean vegetation, having escaped until the moment of the process of urbanization and misunderstanding of these heritage constructions.
