Le 08 juin 1944, l avion (un P51 mustang) piloté par le lieutenant américain Robert Smith a été abattu par un chasseur FW190 allemand.
L avion s est crashé dans ce champ.
Robert Smith est décédé, brulé dans son avion. Il est inhumé dans le cimetière de St james (50)
