The Lincolnshire Mega Team are delighted
to welcome you to

Lincs Go Fly A Kite

Details

Date: Sunday 9th August 2020
Time: 11:00 - 13:00
Where: Devils Dyke.

Devils Dyke

If you believe the geologists Devils Dyke is a 100m deep V-shaped valley which is a dry river bed that was formed at the end of the last ice age, but we on the Sussex and Lincolnshire Mega committees know the truth.
The valley is the work of the devil, a muggle. He was digging a trench to allow the sea to flood the many Church Micros in the Weald of Sussex. His digging disturbed an old cacher who lit a candle. On seeing the light from the candle the devil thought that morning was fast approaching, so the devil fled leaving his trench unfinished. With his last shovel of earth he threw over his shoulder falling into the sea, forming the Isle of Wight.
To mark the spot where the old cacher lit the candle Sadexploration has placed
Church Micro 666...Devils Dyke.

Kite Making/Flying

Join the Lincolnshire 2021 Committee as we thumb our noses at the Devil and fly homemade miniature kites from the Dyke!
Materials and equipment will be available for you to use to make your own miniature kite or bring one along ready-made. (Please watch for announcements regarding restrictions of materials allowable for pre made miniature kites).
The rules are simple, the kites must be:
  • Home-made
  • No bigger than an A4 piece of paper
  • In the colours of the Lincolnshire flag either red, green, blue or yellow or a combination of these colours.
  • Give your kite a Lincolnshire theme.
The first hour of the event will be set aside for you to make your kites, then the second hour will be the kite flying competition. There will be several categories to compete in:
  1. Children up to 10 years
  2. Children 11 -17 years
  3. Adults 18+
To make the competition a little more interesting we will offer prizes of a Gift Voucher to be spent in our online shop for the following winners in each category:
  1. The kite that flies for the longest.
  2. The best Lincolnshire themed kite.
There will be time for the usual chat and swapping of TBs and other trackables, bring a drink, a snack or a picnic and a chair for a social lunchtime get together after the competition.
