Geocache Description:

20 March 2020, 07:30 - 08:45

In what has now become something of a tradition, The Chilihouse (well, at least one of us...) will be waking up with a bucket of coffee in the obvious place, to celebrate the start of the Astronomical Spring. If the weather is kind then we might even be able to sit outside...

The venue is opposite a most appropriately named pub for an equinox...

We'll make sure that we have something caching related on our table to help you recognise us, usually a purple sweet tin for any trackables.

Today could be seen as important for geocachers, as from tomorrow, the hours of daylight are longer than the hours of darkness, so for those of us who don't do night caching then this gives us the opportunity to spend longer caching and attempt longer walks.

On the equinoxes the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal – but not quite.

The March equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from south to north and vice versa in September.

The actual time of the 2020 Vernal Equinox in Hampshire is 03:49, but as that's far too early, the event will be held from 07.30-08.45 which hopefully isn't too early for everyone but allows those of you who want to attend and need to get to work (or are on the school run) to pop in en route.
