The Winter Solstice is the day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere with the least amount of daylight and when Winter officially begins. The sun rises at 8:23am and at 9:59 a.m. CST, Winter officially begins as the sun enters the Zodiac sign of Capricorn or 270 degress along longditude of the ecliptic. The Winter Solstice has been the focus of celebration throughout history and in various cultures.
This Community Celebration Event (CCE) takes place on the former railroad bridge that was repurposed to connect the river walkway system. It is a "come-and-go" celebration that begins at 7:30am. This is an outdoor event. All Public Health Orders will be observed. Paid parking is available at the Forks. Thank you to JAB007 for this CCE event idea.
This event is being held on Treaty 1 territory and the land on which we will gather is the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
