King Tut’s 100th Anniversary at D’lish: A 2022 Community Celebration - Nov. 19, 2022 3-5:15 pm
UPDATE: We start at D'Lish but at 4 pm the final site is at pilot's home - 829 Temperance St.
Geocaching is much like archaeology – searching carefully and legally for the lost and unexpected. That was the task of Howard Carter and his loyal local workers in November of 1922. Let’s celebrate this discovery of the only complete tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh at D’lish. Did you know that Carter was searching for the boy king’s tomb for more than 5 years? We can pretend that we are part of the party of onlookers who watched the tomb opening on Nov. 26, 1922 . Carter’s patron, Lord Carnarvon, was there plus many others. You may want to brush up on your knowledge of this special discovery since there will be a few puzzles and games based on it.
Come at 3 pm to meet outside the cafe and get coordinates for a variety of sites with Egyptian overtones for you to plot by vehicle. Please bring a GPS or phone or both where you can add coordinates. Prizes given to those who locate the most sites. Then return to D'lish from 4-5:15 pm for a late afternoon coffee or treat at the back of this locally owned coffee shop. Learn a bit more about Tutankhamun as we share stories, games and trackables. If you cannot participate in the 3-4 pm challenge, please join us to sign the log between 4 and 5 pm.
We hope a November Community gathering will be a welcome break from fall leaf raking and a pre Grey Cup activity. Watch for several Tut caches before the event. Thanks to Goldpot, a UK cacher, for providing the idea for this event.
Community Celebration Events - 2020-2022
This Event is part of a limited release of Community Celebration Events to celebrate 20 years of geocaching. Geocachers hosted events between May 2, 2020 and December 31, 2020. Learn more about Community Celebration Events on the Geocaching Blog.
We were pleased to apply to host an event and even more delighted to be chosen of one of the 2,020 hosts in the month of January, 2020. Congratulations to DoreyXplorey for organizing the first provincial community celebration event (GC8HKN4) on Blue Switch day – May 2, 2020! Like so many things, it had to be postponed and it morphed into"Celebration", held on October 16,2021. Covid also stalled our first planned community celebration and so we have changed plans to a local one within the timeline of finishing by Dec., 31 2022. Join us as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pharoah Tutankhamen!
