The Setup
Prior to the event 10 temporary geocaches will be placed in the Kilcona / North Kildonan / Transcona area.
Some caches can be walked to. Some need vehicular assistance. No terrain or difficulty will be above 1.5/1.5
Each cache will contain unique, shuffled deck of cards from a single deck, with each card in a small envelop (All envelops will be collected at the end of the event and either reused or recycled).
All teams should arrive between 1PM and 1:30PM to be able to get the rules, the coordinates, and find the caches. Cachers arriving after 2:30PM can sign the log, but cannot participate in the poker derby.
Teams should consist of no more than 4 people. Sure, you *can* have 5, but there will only be 4 prizes at each level.
There are only 48 envelopes in each cache. There are no "2's" available. As a result, Ace will only be a high card, not a low card.
In the event that there are more than 48 teams entered, I can assist in blending teams of up to 4 people.
Each team can only draw a total of 10 cards, one from each unique container.
The Deal
At approximately 1:30PM, all teams will be given a game sheet with the cache coordinates and a diagram of sample winning poker hands.
Teams will write their team name on top of the game sheet, and list up to four team members.
The "Draw"
This is *not* a race. First team back will not get more brownie points than the last team. That said, any teams arriving back at the starting point after 3:15 may be disqualified.
Teams will search out the caches in whichever order they want. There are no First To Find prizes. (This isn't a race). There are no permanent caches.
Please do not sabotage any of the caches preventing other players from enjoying the game.
Each team will bring back between 5 and 10 unopened card envelopes to qualify for the final prize.
Each envelop will have a unique identifier so that I know which cache it came from. The more unique cards you bring back the more flexibility you will have in creating your final 5 card hand.
Only draw 1 envelop from each individual cache. Drawing more than one will disqualify both cards.
Please put the cache container back where you found it.
Keep the envelopes sealed and return to the starting point. Pre-opened envelopes will be disqualified.
The Reveal
At the designated time, likely 3:30PM, teams will open their envelopes and make the best 5 card poker hand can they can.
Any envelopes opened before Dani instructs all teams to open their cards will be disqualified. (note: if you’ve accidentally opened an envelop, you may go back to the cache to retrieve another card, but you still need to be back at GZ before the deadline of 3:15)
You cannot trade cards between teams.
Only 1 card from each cache will be allowed in the final 10 envelops collected.
There are no wild cards. There are no "2's". Ace is always considered a high card.
The Final Rules
The three teams with the best poker hands wins.
