These worked-out gravel pits provide refuge for a number of species in fact it's one of the best places to see bats and dragonflies in Derbyshire! There's a pond dipping platform and loads of trails with a couple of geocaches already in place. I have approval to place a few more which will be published in conjunction with the event.
The address is :
Willowpit Lane,
Hilton
Derby
Derbyshire
DE65 5FW
Please meet at 9:45am for a 10am start. The CITO will run until 2pm.
WHAT
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust are currently trying to restore areas of fen, this involves removing trees and scrub from areas which were once full of reeds, water mint and other marginal vegetation. Although we love scrub, the particular bits of scrub that we are looking at removing are currently causing us to lose an important aspect of the reserve.
HOW
As always, George Bird from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust will provide all the tools, required safety equipment (gloves etc) and full instructions.
Please bring wellies, water proof coat and your own gloves if you want to.
Children are welcome to attend and should be under adult supervision at all times.
