Geocache Description:

Did you know that the origin of cookies can be traced back to 7th century Persia around the time that cooking with sugar became popular? The cookies were not like our cookies today, they were thin and hard. It is believed that the popularity spread to Spain and then to the rest of Europe. In the 1620s, the Dutch from New Amsterdam are thought to have brought cookies to America. "Koekje" was the Dutch word for wafer which was later pronounce “cookie” or cooky.

The "sugar" cookie in America can be traced back to the 1700s in Nazareth, Pennsylvania where German settlers created round, crumbly, buttery cookies called the Nazareth Cookie (plain sugar cookie). German settlers also introduced cookie cutters and decorative molds but the iced decorated cookies we know today likely evolved from the English. In England hard tasteless sugar cookies were decorated and hung on the Christmas tree as ornaments.

The cache is a simple lock and lock container in the woods a few feet off the trail in John Homestead park. There are two ways to get to the cache. NOTE as of 2/8/21 you cannot access the cache from the front of the park where there is parking due to construction behind the church. I will remove this note once it is completed. You can still visit the other 3 caches from the front. You will have to park on Stapp Dr for now to access this cache. The first and longest way is from the trail head off Lawrenceville Highway near the historic building on the property which will require walking over a few small creeks on wooden planks (until bridges are built). For this method park in the Rehobeth Baptist Church. The second way is to walk up the trail from Stapp Dr near the lake. This is the shortest way but requires parking on Staff Dr in front of residential homes. Please be mindful to park on the side of the street going back up Stapp Dr and not to block the residents driveways.

Take a look around at this beautiful park. There are three other caches in the park to find - John Homestead, Pete the Python, and Petes friend Timmy. I highly recommend them all..

Thanks to Team Kimchi for encouraging me to place my first cache. FTF can grab a "cookie cutter" set or a sugar cookie ornament.
