I really like something different and a letterbox hybrid gives one the opportunity to find the cache using only clues. However, since this is geocaching after all, GPS usage must be part of finding a letterbox hybrid. This cache gives you the option to find the cache by either following the letterbox-style clues or by projecting a series of waypoints. It is up to you on which method to get that smiley.
The posted coordinates take you to a sign along the trail, serving as the starting point for both letterbox-style clues and waypoint projections.
Letterbox Clues
- Continue on north 30 steps to the next sign along the trail.
- On the next sign, two points of interest are listed with distance and direction.
- Using the info on the second sign, turn in the direction of the last point of interest points.
- Walk 35 steps along the trail until you arrive at a man-made object with a white tip.
- Turn left (east) at the man-made object onto the lesser traveled trail.
- Follow the lesser traveled trail roughly 130 steps until you find another sign.
- At the sign, the trail switches back and descends.
- Follow the trail past teh switchback for 4 steps.
- From the trail, turn right (north) off of the trail and go 5 steps, skrting below the ledge above.
- On your right (east) is the opening ot a small cave.
- Go inside and to the rear of the cave to find the cache.
GPS Projections
- At the posted coordinates, you will find a sign with information needed to find the next stage and the final..
A is the number of points of interest listed on the sign.
B is the number in the red background.
C is the number in the green background.
D is the tenths digit for the distance to East Pinnacle.
E is the line number that the distance to Buzzard's Roost is listed on.
- From the posted coordinates, project a waypoint at a bearing of C° and at a distance of AB feet for stage 2.
- At stage 2, you will find another sign with more information needed to determine the final.
X is the tenths digit for the distance to Devil's Kitchen.
Y is the number in the black background.
Z is the number of directions with a Down arrow.
- From stage 2, project a waypoint at a bearing of and ZDX° at a distance of YZE feet for the final location.
The cache is an ammo can with log, stamp, and room for swag. As always bring your own writing instrument.
