Fool's Gold Mystery Cache

Here's the puzzle...

Imagine how foolish I felt once I opened the package and viewed the contents within, and realized -- I had been duped. Mr. Reynolds had assured me I would be receiving a reliable map that would lead me to the hidden treasure.

As a geocacher, it’s in my nature to enjoy the challenge of the chase and the thrill of the find, even if the glory is limited to my initials on a logsheet.  But my naivete and perhaps greed blinded me as I had jumped on the offer from a business associate to acquire (for a hefty fee) an “authenticated map” which was guaranteed to guide me to a cache filled with gold coins. 

I stared at the so-called map.  For some reason I was expecting to receive a tattered old paper, weathered and discolored, filled with hand-drawn sketches of landmarks, mountains and lakes and villages, and dotted lines forming a trail to a big “X” where the gold was buried – you know, the common standard of books and movies.  Instead, I was now gazing at a print of something straight out of a surrealistic Cantor painting, and I just could not believe my gullibility.

Did I bet my life savings for this quest?  Of course not, but the acquisition still cost me a pretty penny, not to mention my pride.  I sat for awhile and scanned the print again for several minutes before dejectedly tossing it aside  --  I felt stupid and betrayed, and this seemed to be a good time to soften the blow with some whiskey.  A couple of shots dulled the pain a bit, and I tried to forget the whole thing.

My mind couldn’t let it go though, so after a while I picked up and examined the “map” again to see if I missed something.  This time I carefully focused on the obvious features and desperately tried to find a connection between them.  Prominent were what appeared to be a golden sash, a hummingbird in flight, bound wrists, and the word "Imagine". Could these together somehow point the way?

I grabbed a magnifying glass and scrutinized some more. Then... Aha!  Suddenly the answer was staring right back at me. Not only was the location revealed, I already knew the area like the back of my hands. I still had my doubts, but sure enough, when I arrived at GZ, there awaited a rockpile covering a container filled with the promised gold – and I was amazed to discover that my contact had been telling the truth!  Though the true instructions were covered by the smoke and mirrors of misdirection, the map was real. But just not the kind with a big “X”, nor dashed-line trails, nor hand-sketched hills and rivers.

I’m now giving you the opportunity to relive my experience here in the local area!  All you have to do is obtain the “map”, determine from it the original coordinates, and then apply the offset provided below to find REAL gold! Or silver (to the FTF).  The rest of you might be rewarded with zinc or something. Anyway, I’ve even given you the degrees for the final cache location. The rest is for you to uncover.
