New Year's Resolution Event 2020 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Donnacha: Thanks to everyone for attending the 2020 New Year's Resolution Event, which was the fifteenth edition of the event. A special thanks to the 36 people who braved the horrendous rain and joined us on the walk up Cave Hill afterwards.

Thanks to our official event photographer Nigel for taking our group photo. I have added the group photo taken by Nigel to the top of event page. Nigel also took some other great photos before the walk which he has attached to his log.

Thanks also to Blue Jay & Toffee Man for bringing the Chatty Cache to Bangor this year and arranging the discounted rate for the hotel rooms, it was much appreciated. It was a fabulous evening with great chat & craic.

Last of all, thank you to all that attended for helping make this such a successful and enjoyable event each year. I wish you all the best for 2020, our 20th year of Geocaching, and I look forward to seeing you at the event in 2021 when hopefully it will be a bit dryer!

NYRE2020_Group_Photo

RouteWhen - Saturday January 11th 2020
Where - Belfast Castle, Belfast.
Time - 10am

The 2020 New Years Resolution event will take place at Belfast Castle, located on the slopes of Cavehill Country Park.

The event will start at 10am at the posted coordinates (Main Car Park) where we can chat about the Geocaching adventures over the festive season.

Parking

There is a car park at event GZ. In the event that the car park is full upon your arrival, use the alternative parking waypoints provided.

Post Event Walk

A walk will take place after the event at 10.30am that is optional and everyone is welcome to join. The walk which is slightly more challenging (at the beginning) than previous years is a loop walk and starts and finishes at the event coordinates. The walk is approximately 8K in length with approximately a few hundred meters accent, and will take around 3 to 3.5 hours to complete including taking in some caches located on the loop. The walk would not be suitable for very young children, 8 years or older is recommended. The walk will provide stunning views over Belfast Lough.

Walking boots are highly recommended as some areas may be muddy and slippery after rainfall. We will be out in the open so please dress appropriately for the conditions and you should have warm clothes, wet gear, water and food with you.

After the walk there is an area reserved in the Belfast Castle restaurant (go into the lift and go to leavel -1, no requirement to purchase anything) where you can begin the recovery process!
