Some History of the similar Events. By Kit of The Forgetful Elephants
In the early days of caching you only met other cachers by accident at a cache, and that happened rarely. The Forgetful Elephants and the Sonatella’s decided they needed to do something about this so an event was arranged at the Morley Arms Plymouth on the 25th October 2008 and was called the no-name event. We expected no more than twenty people, but over 70 attended. The event turned out to be standing room only. People were asked what the event should be called and Lord Sonatella came up with “Stop the Clocks”. The original idea was to hold the event on the weekend the clocks changed.
The first “Stop the Clocks” was held at the Morley on 28th March 2009. In October 2009 the event moved to The Plume of Feathers Princetown and then to the Prince of Wales, Princetown in 2011. In 2012, The Sonatella’s decided to retire from the event. The Forgetful Elephants, realizing it was not quite the same event, and rarely fell on the weekend the clocks changed, renamed it “Marking Time” and held the first event in April 2014, and continued with events in April and October.
In 2018 The Forgetful Elephants decided it was time they retired from the event and “The Last Ever Marking Time” was held on the 24th March 2018. Close to the 9th Anniversary of the first Stop the Clocks Event. But they event lives on………
Last year I held the event at the Prince of Wales and Yukonhuskies held the Spring one and hopefully he will be able to hold the one in the Spring.
I am holding the event at a different venue because of my ill health and is closer to my home. But dont worry I am ok.
REMEMBER PEOPLE MUST LOG WHO IS EATING AND HOW MANY, I will be putting a menu up on here shortly and we can give the pub a idea on what people are eating.
