Geocache Description:

Another in Mole’s Series of Series – VS #1677 Headcorn

Some time ago (June 2009 through to August 2010) we had put together a series of caches and the theme of those was ‘Series’ – collectively known as Mole’s SOS (Series of Series)

Each cache was, in their own right, part of a group of caches (a series) around the country each following a theme linked to a landmark or object, such as churches, ponds and in this case Village Signs .
Each ‘series’ was devised by an individual cacher who either retained the series and developed it on their own such as the ‘ponds, dewponds and lakes’ series by martletsman or encouraged other cachers to add to the series with the request to advise the originator of a new addition in order to keep tabs of the increasing number and save duplication – such as the church micro series, which is managed by sadexploration (This is now the largest linked series of caches in the world)

There are some series of caches which do not get referred to by a rolling number allocated by the originator (like church micro #176), instead these others are referred to by their location – such as the motorway mayhem series where the motorway and the junction distinguish it from any other.

As a result 22 SOS caches were put together highlighting 20 different series
(if you want to find these search ‘Mole’s SOS’ in the cache name box, these are mainly found around the Tonbridge area)

Having moved away from Tonbridge in 2017 we adopted out the early part of the SOS series (the first 22) and these are now owned by cachers local to Tonbridge – all still active caches.
We are now adding to this SOS series with caches more locally to where we live.

So adding to this series – The Village Sign series

About Village Sign Caches

This cache is one of the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).

The signs are made of different materials ranging from fibreglass to wood, forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so a series was started based on these signs - The series was startd by Smokeypugs !

More information and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do. I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.

This cache is to highlight the Village Sign in Headcorn – I won’t say too much as you need to examine the sign in order to progress
I will say - the featured Windmill is believed to be that of White Mill which was demolished in 1952. It seems to have been located around 0.2 miles NW of the village sign along Mill Bank. I can not find much more about this - so if anyone has any more info please let us know.

On to the cache:-

This is a Reverse Wherigo Cache - you can start your search anywhere in the world.  Though starting at the original co-ords for this cache is probably more sensible wink

You will need a Smartphone or GPS device, which is capable of playing Wherigo.

The Cartridge from -Waldmeister-
is available to download here Click (X) Here.
Please note: This cartidge had an update in December 2019 - if you have had your reverse wherigo cartridge stored in either your GPS or phone prior to that you will need to delete that cartridge and download it again. It is unlikely to work if you do not
Waldmeister's The First Reverse Cache is the original cache.

This is a simple Wherigo game - once you begin you are given the distance of the cache from where you are - but no direction. Then head off with the aim to reduce the 'distance'. You have to ask the game how far each time - If you go in the wrong direction the distance will be bigger. When you get really close - you will be given the final co-ords
The cache will be found under 1 mile away - if you choose to use your vehicle, please note, parking will likely need to be paid for - but it is a nice walk from the original co-ords anyway wink

Try to use your Reverse Cache box as few times as possible. All the instructions and information you need to complete this cartridge is contained within it. It can be played in English or German.

To begin however you need three 6-digit codes so:-

Go to the village sign at the given co-ords (parking may be found in nearby Moat Road) and retrieve the information from the sign:-

What year was the sign originally unveiled = ABCD
What year was the sign restored = EFGH
How many bolts can be seen (do not count missing ones) securing the rectangular plate at the rear  = K

Using this information transfer them to get the code
C0HDK8
EG66AD
FG363F

To start this reverse wherigo you will have to type this code into your player (in the order as shown)

Take the code with you on your quest, you might need it if there is a problem with your player.
As you get nearer there will be a point where you are given the final co-ords

When you reach the final, you will be given some statistics. Please copy an image of it or write the details into your log (this is optional, it is not a requirement for logging this). Additionally, you will get a personal password which you can enter into the Code generator if you select "create" instead of "play"

Good luck and enjoy

If you cannot find a cache, do not assume it missing and do not put a throwdown as a replacement. ALL maintenance is the responsibility of the CO – if any is required, please add a ‘Needs Maintenance’ log to highlight the issue.

Remember - if you don't sign the logsheet - do not log a find online

Please replace all caches exactly as found
