This carousel is located in Riverfront Park, in downtown Spokane, Washington. Only a few of these handcarved wooden carousels exist in the United States, and this one is beautiful. The hours vary, but it is usually open between Noon and 6:00 pm through the summer (until Ocober 23rd), and from noon to 5:00 pm only on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays through the winter (until April).
This carousel was built by Charles Louff, a german woodcarver. It took him two years to carve the wooden animals, and it began operating in the Natatorium Park (near the west end of Boone Avenue along the river) in 1909. The park closed in 1963 and the carousel was placed into storage. It was taken out of storage and placed here for the World Expo '74, and covered with a copper roof. It still operates daily throughout the summer season.
To log this cache, you must go to the carousel, purchase an admission ($2.00 for adults), ride one of the wooden horses, and reach for the brass ring. You must post a photograph of yourself, holding your GPS, while firmly seated on one of the animals while the carousel is operating. No, I didn't say you could stand next to it, no descriptions or some other shortcut, you must be on the horse! That's why this one has a 2.5 rating.
Bonus points if you can show in your photo that you grabbed the actual Brass Ring! Good Luck, and don't forget to bring the kids!
