Synclinal : Lorsque des couches sédimentaires de roches forment des plis, la partie d'une couche plissée qui forme un creux se nomme Synclinal. La couche la plus récente est à l'intérieur du pli. La couche la plus ancienne se trouve à l'extéreiur du pli.

L'anticlinal forme une bosse alors que le synclinal forme le creux.
Si l'age des couches n'est pas connu (cas des roches ayant subi des plissements complexes), on nomme simplement antiforme la partie du plissement qui fait une bosse et synforme la partie du plissement qui forme un creux.

Anticlinal : When sedimentary layers of rocks form folds, the part of a folded layer that forms a bump is called the Anticlinal. The most recent layer is outside the fold. The oldest layer is inside the fold.
In an anticline, the most recent layer is outside the fold.
The anticline forms a hump while the syncline forms the hollow.
If the age of the layers is not known (case of the rocks having undergone complex folds), one simply names antiform the part of the folding which makes a hump and synform the part of the fold which forms a hollow.
