Geocache Description:

Another addition to the sidetracked series.

Here we have one of Nottinghams lost railways. The Derbyshire and Staffordshire extension of the Great Northern railway. The line came from London road Low level station in the west originally with an additional line added later in the 19th century linking up with the new Great Central Railway and running into the new VIctoria station (now Victoria centre). In the easterly direction the line ran to Grantham.

At GZ is a bridge abutment which carried the Nottingham Surburban Railway over the Midland railway towards Sneinton. The junction was known as Trent lane junction and was situated about 1/4 mile west of this spot. This railway ran through Thorneywood, St Anns and Sherwood and met the GN backline at Daybrook.
