En bordure du halage.
Cette cache a pour but de vous faire découvrir ce chemin de halage et ses diverses écluses.
A partir du parking vous aurez a parcourir une distance de 600 m environ. Ce chemin est interdit aux véhicules à moteur.
Une promenade à pieds ou à vélo s'impose.
Voici un petit descriptif de ce chemin pour les plus curieux.
La rivière la Mayenne
Traversant le département de part en part, la Mayenne fut longtemps l’axe économique le plus important du territoire.
Déjà fréquenté sous Charlemagne, la navigation s’est poursuivie jusqu‘au milieu du XXème siècle dans le sillage des péniches qui remontaient le cours, faisant le commerce de bois, d’huile ou de sable de Loire et le descendant en transportant du cidre, des céréales ou les toiles de lin ou chanvre.
C’est ainsi que tout naturellement les hommes se sont installés au bord de l’eau en bâtissant les villes principales de la Mayenne : Laval, Mayenne et Château-Gontier.
Après une courte durée de désaffection, la Mayenne a retrouvé une seconde vie grâce au tourisme fluvial et à la transformation du chemin de halage en chemin de randonnée.
Le chemin de halage
Jadis les embarcations tirées par des chevaux ou des hommes, depuis le chemin bordant la rivière, remontaient le cours d'eau "à la halée".
Ainsi a été façonné au fil des ans, le chemin de halage de la Mayenne.
Le chemin de halage est une des plus belles voies vertes de France : 85 km d’un itinéraire de randonnée en toute sécurité, ouvert à tous les randonneurs non-motorisés.
C’est sans doute le moyen le plus simple et le plus authentique de pénétrer au cœur du département.
La faune et la flore
Le chemin de halage est ponctué de panneaux explicatifs qui présentent l’histoire de la navigation, le patrimoine bâti, ainsi que la faune, la flore.
