Live Green Lexington has hidden 12 geocaches around the city. Each cache represents a theme about water quality. You will have the chance to learn more about stormwater, pollinator gardens, Reforest the Bluegrass, and the Citizens’ Environmental Academy. Ready to learn more about the ways we keep our water clean and healthy?

Storm drain stenciling is a great way to let people know about water quality and informs people not to pour any chemicals or wastes down storm inlets or drains. The stencil also provides a constant reminder that storm drains lead straight to local waterways (does not get treated) and that dumping can pollute those waters. This open space across from Idle Hour park is a water quality lot. These lots are usually in a flood zone and create an opportunity for rainwater to soak up in the ground. Without green space, it is harder for rain to act in its natural way.

The garden was planted by volunteers and is maintained through volunteer labor. Please be careful where you step. There is no need to walk deeply into the garden in order to reach the cache.
The wetland of Idle Hour Greenspace is a no-mow zone, where trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses create a natural buffer between the creek on one side and suburban turf on the other side. A mowed path runs through the buffer area. You are welcome to walk along this path and admire the diversity of plants and animals, especially pollinating insects, in this stream-side habitat.
