Geocache Description:

Smokey Bear 75th Anniversary GeoTour

Since 1944, Smokey Bear has taught millions of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires. 75 years later, Smokey is celebrating a milestone birthday. Honor him and this timeless message of wildfire prevention by finding all 75 caches in this GeoTour.

About This Specific Location

The Fallen Firefighter's Memorial was dedicated on June 9, 2018 after being approved by the General Assembly in 2014. The 22,000 pound concrete obelisk was moved from its original location at Mirror Lake where it has sat since 1971. An improvement to the memorial is the bronze statue of a firefighter bowing his head in memory of the fallen who lost their lives while serving the citizens of Delaware.

The Delaware Forest Service has a close partnership with the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association. Several members train with and assist the Forest Service with prescribed fires as well as participate in the out-of-state wildland firefighting program.

Note cache is only available when the Dover Public Library is open.

Stage 1: Visit the Fire Memorial at the listed coords to gather the info needed to find the cache at the Dover Public Library.

You need to determine ABC XYZ where:
A = on the statue base: 3rd letter of the 4 letter word
B = on the statue base: 1st letter of the 3-letter abbreviation
C = on the statue: 3rd large letter on the firefighter's helmet badge
X = on the wall: number of DIFFERENT fire companies listed under NEW CASTLE COUNTY
Y = on the obelisk: Number of firefighters listed for Kent County PLUS 1
Z = on the wall: Number of Kent County firefighters listed who lost their lives on the 3rd day of the month (different years)

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Then go to the Dover Public Library, go to the second floor and look for the ABC XYZ that you determined at the listed coords.

Library Hours:
