At 20:17.40 UTC on Sunday July 20th 1969 the Lunar Module 'Eagle' of the USA space mission Apollo 11 landed at N00 41'15" E23 26'00" in the Sea of Tranquility on the Earth's moon.
Eighteen seconds after touchdown the Commander of the mission Neil A. Armstrong announced to the listening world
'Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed'
A statement which is probably one of the top three astronaut statements in the history of the Apollo missions.
Hopefully the weather will be favourable for the event and the skies will be clear, attendees should have a good view over the Vale of York and the early evening sky. Unfortunately the moon will not be attendance, it is not due to rise until 22.14 UTC, neither will the International Space Station be passing by one of its 92 minute orbits of the earth
I'm old enough to remember Apollo missions, the BBC coverage hosted by James Burke, and my parents even allowed me to stay up late for this first momentous moon landing.
Hopefully you will be able to attend to meet and socialise with other Geocachers, swap Travel Bugs and Geocoins, and share your memories of the 'space race' and subsequent space exploration.
