Geocache Description:

Welcome to the oldest cache in Brooklyn.

A lot has happened in the 14 years this cache has been around. Construction, demolition, deforestation, replanting - we've seen it all! This cache is certainly not a Park & Grab. Consider it a safari in Brooklyn! There are two basic ways to access the cache.

1. Go through the ball fields at the entrance near Avenue W. (40 37.155 73 53.996). You need to get into the fenced corridor between the fields. The sign says that the gate is open dawn to dusk, but I've seen variations on this. Don't go at dusk or you might be locked in. And certainly don't climb the fences! From the street, the cache is a 6 minute walk. Go through the complex, and veer left, going past the play area. Step over a small 3' high gate (to keep the kiddies in) to access the trail.

2. The other method is to find a trail which runs to the North of the ball fields. It starts on Bergen Avenue, 100 feet (or so) north of Avenue V. (40 37.236 73 54.089) WEAR BOOTS! The trail is overgrown, but passable This route goes through tidal marshland which is muddy at best. Be sure to go at at low tide, otherwise you will be wading in.

You can also reach this one via the bike path along the roadway. You will have to enter the path either at Flatbush Avenue or Canarsie. It's a nice ride!

Please - no pictures, descriptions or spoilers of the hide. Keep it interesting for everyone else.

This is a fun cache to do, despite some of the difficulty in reaching it. Enjoy your little safari in Brooklyn. Happy hunting!
