Geocache Description:

02 July 2019, 18:00 - 20:00

Welcome to the Frederick Puzzler's Corner!

This is a monthly event to encourage puzzle solving in the geocaching community - all are welcome.

July 2nd is World UFO Day

World UFO day was originally organized in 2001 as a tribute to all the unidentified flying objects reported, and the little green men that many imagine are out there, waiting for that day when us hue-maans can accept their existence and treat them as they would other hue-maans.  Will that happen in our lifetimes?  Most likely not.  But who says they have to be little green men?  Who says they’re not already here, living among us?  If that is the case, I have to wonder what they think of our species, especially if much of their exposure is in large cities and through news reports?  Did the 1947 alien space ship crash at Roswell, New Mexico actually happen, or was it a fallen weather balloon as our government would have us believe?  Was that incident a true accident, or was it a failed attempt to make First Contact?  Are all aliens corporeal?  Are they all a humanoid-type species?  Do they all travel in ‘flying saucers’, or can they teleport over vast spans of lightyears?  Do they even see space and time in a linear manner like we do?  Can they manipulate spacetime to move from place to place, and time to time?  Could they go back into our history and change one tiny thing, sparking a butterfly effect that would result in changes we would never recognize?  Will there ever be anything like the United Federation of Planets?

We may not know what - or who - is out there, but there are those who agree 100% that we are not alone in the universe.  As big as our universe is, it would be pretty arrogant to think we’re the only planet that supports sentient, intelligent beings, so let’s throw a party to celebrate other life, and invite them over for a visit (BYOSS)!  We just need subspace communication technology to let them know…

I hope First Contact is more like the Vulcans planned, than what happened in ID4!  Who knows, maybe they’ll be flying among our fireworks in a couple days.

And now, for the usual spiel…

This event is open to all cachers, no matter what your statistics say or whether you even like puzzles!  Newbies and addicts, socialites and lone wolves, mark you calendar.

If you've got a puzzle or mystery cache that's currently got you stumped and you'd like to pick some brains, this event is for you!  Zombies are not welcome though, so please leave your pets at home - we want everyone to leave with the brains they brought.

This event is a think-tank type assembly, with everyone collaborating on the latest tantalizing quizzler on their radar.  The learning primarily comes from working with others to solve a targeted teaser, but there may be a short tutorial thrown in once in a while.  You don't have to work on puzzles to enjoy this, as there are lots of stories to be heard.  However, you'll have plenty of others to commiserate with, and you might discover someone has solved a puzzle using a similar technique.  We continue to see successes and progress at each gathering.

For the puzzle junkies, bring your puzzle paraphernalia - flagged caches, laptop or tablet (Wi-Fi is available), theories, library card, worksheets, (sp)eye glasses, flight plans, Enigma machine, abacus, scratch paper (don’t forget your writing instrument) - you never know who, or what, will show up, and from whom you can gain an advantage.  Maybe you’ve recently cracked a tough one and want to see others’ wheels spinning - that can be loads of fun!  Yes, we have regular head-slapping moments!

If you have a specific puzzle or puzzling topic you'd like help with, feel free to make note of it in your Will Attend log so others can prepare.
