Geocache Description:

Here you will find yourself at the ruins of the old Melrose Valley Railway camp Cookhouse Fireplace! There was a camp established here back in the 1880s of about 200 men, who build the railway line nearby, including McAlisters Cutting 400m to the SE, which required movement of 60,000 tons of rock! This rock was in turn used to provide material for the Rocky Gully crossing.

There is a plaque here remembering 2 of the railway workers that were killed during the construction of the line here.

It is sad to note, that with such high costs, the railway line now lies neglected and forgotten.

Notes:
1. The cache is not in the ruins - please do not disturb them,
2. Please BYO pen.
