From this virtual you will have a chance to reflect on how small we, as people, actually are. Ever marvelled at the great size and magnitude of some buildings? Well, now you can hold them in the palm of your hand. We hope this instills some profound realisation that there is always something bigger at play, and that you are more powerful than you think.You can hold buildings on a finger and mountains in the palm of your hand. Your life is a comma in the sentence of time and space, so be humble and appreciate every little thing.
The administrative capital of South Africa is centered around the Union Buildings on Meintjieskop .
Pretoria was founded in 1855. It is the home to many national landmarks and institutions, many of which can seen from the top of the terraced gardens of the Union Buildings.This includes the Voortrekker Monument, former president Nelson Mandela's statue in the gardens, the University of Pretoria, UNISA, the Reserve Bank Building. Fort Skanskop and Fort Klapperkop are sited on the adjacent ridges. Freedom Park can also be seen from the Union Buildings.
The city valley becomes a carpet of lavender Jacaranda blooms between September and November. Legend has it; Jacaranda bloom landings on your shoulder is said to bring you luck for the end of year exams. This is according to students of the city's oldest university, also know as, TUKS.
The Union Building designed by Sir Herbert Baker in 1910 is built from sandstone and is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city.
To log this virtual you need to claim a small piece of Pretoria by doing the following:
1.Take a photo of you capturing any one of Pretoria's landmarks (building or statue), as viewed from Government Avenue above the terraced gardens, framed between your finger and thumb.
2.The photo also needs to show your caching name and the date of your visit (face not required)
3.The final requirement is to identity and name the landmark you claimed and send it to the CO's via the geocaching message centre or by email. Incorrectly identitfied landmarks will be disqualified.
