Der Großglockner

Der Großglockner (häufig auch kurz Glockner genannt) ist mit einer Höhe von 3798 m ü. A. der höchste Berg Österreichs. Die markante Spitze aus Gesteinen der Grünschieferfazies gehört zur Glocknergruppe, einer Bergkette im mittleren Teil der Hohen Tauern, und gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Gipfel der Ostalpen. Seit den ersten Erkundungen Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts und der Erstbesteigung durch vier Teilnehmer einer Großexpedition unter der Leitung von Fürstbischof Salm-Reifferscheidt-Krautheim im Jahr 1800 spielte der Großglockner eine wichtige Rolle in der Entwicklung des Alpinismus. Bis heute ist er von großer Bedeutung für den Fremdenverkehr in der Region und mit mehr als 5000 Gipfelbesteigungen pro Jahr ein beliebtes Ziel der Bergsteiger.

Leichtester Anstieg

Von den vielen Anstiegen zum Gipfel gilt nur der heutige Normalweg, der Weg, den bereits die Erstersteiger im Jahr 1800 nutzten, mit dem Schwierigkeitsgrad II nach UIAA als verhältnismäßig einfach. Ausgangspunkt dieses Weges ist die Erhebung Adlersruhe (auf der heute die Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte steht) am Südostrücken des Kleinglockners. Er kann von der Stüdlhütte im Süden über das Ködnitzkees, von der östlich gelegenen Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe über das Hofmannskees oder von der Salmhütte im Südosten über das Hohenwartkees und die Hohenwartscharte erreicht werden. Von der Adlersruhe führt der Weg über das Glocknerleitl, den großteils vergletscherten Ostrücken des Kleinglockners, fast ohne Felsberührung bis knapp unter den Kleinglocknergipfel. Der letzte Aufschwung zum häufig stark überwechteten Kleinglockner ist mit Eisenstangen versehen. Der folgende, mit Drahtseilen versicherte Abstieg zur Oberen Glocknerscharte und die Überquerung dieses acht Meter langen, nur einen halben Meter breiten und nach beiden Seiten hin ausgesetzten Übergangs gilt als eine Engstelle des Normalweges, wo es sowohl im Auf- als auch im Abstieg des Öfteren zu anhaltenden Stauungen mit langen Wartezeiten kommen kann. Die 30 Meter von der Scharte zum Gipfel gelten mit dem Schwierigkeitsgrad II (UIAA) als der klettertechnisch schwierigste Abschnitt und bilden die Schlüsselstelle des Normalwegs.

Die Hinweise

Dies ist ein Cache im hochalpinem Gelände, der Aufsteig bis zum Großglockner ist technisch einfach, aber fordert eine gute Kondition. Hier sind neben Erfahrung im Gehen am Gletscher, auf Firnfelder und Eishängen, sowie Kletterkönnen und gute Kondition vor allem hochalpine Erfahrung notwendig. Prüfe vor dem Tourantritt und wenn möglich während der Tour den Wetterbericht und nimm ausreichend Verpflegung, technisches Material sowie genügend Ersatzwäsche mit. Die Logbedingung

Mache ein Foto zusammen mit deinem GPS oder dir vom Gipfelkreuz auf dem auch das aktuelle Datum ersichtlich ist. Dafür reicht auch ein einfacher Zettel mit dem Datum.

Als weitere Alternative kann auch die offizielle Bergführerurkunde zur Grossglockner Besteigung verwendet werden. Diese ist mit dem Foto zusammen mit Deinem GPS oder dir vom Gipfelkreuz hochzuladen.

The Großglockner

The Großglockner (often also called Glockner for short) is at an altitude of 3798 m above sea level the highest mountain in Austria. The striking peak of the greenschist facies rocks belongs to the Glocknergruppe, a mountain range in the middle part of the Hohe Tauern, and is considered one of the most important peaks of the Eastern Alps. Since the first explorations at the end of the 18th century and the first ascent by four participants of a major expedition led by Prince-Bishop Salm-Reifferscheidt-Krautheim in 1800, the Grossglockner played an important role in the development of alpinism. Until today it is important for the tourism in the region and with more than 5000 summits every year a popular destination of mountaineers.

Easiest way up

Of the many climbs to the summit, only today's normal route, the route that already used the first climbers in 1800, with the difficulty level II after UIAA as relatively easy. Starting point of this path is the alpine hut Adlersruhe (on which today the Erzherzog Johann Hütte stands) on the southeastern back of Kleinglockner. It can be reached from the Stüdlhütte in the south via the Ködnitzkees, from the eastern Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe via the Hofmannskees or from the Salmhütte in the southeast via the Hohenwartkees and the Hohenwartscharte. From the Adlersruhe the path leads over the Glocknerleitl, the mostly glaciated eastern ridge of the Kleinglockner, almost without rock contact until just below the Kleinglocknergipfel. The last upswing to the frequently overcrowded Kleinglockner is provided with iron bars. The following, insured with wire ropes descent to Upper Glocknerscharte and the crossing of this eight-meter-long, only half a meter wide and exposed to both sides transition is considered a bottleneck of the normal route, where it is often in both up and down to persistent congestion can come with long waits. The 30 meters from the gap to the summit are classified as Difficulty Level II (UIAA) as the most difficult climbing section and form the key part of the normal route.

The hints

This is a cache in the high alpine terrain, the climb up to the Großglockner is technically simple, but requires a good condition. In addition to experience in glacier walking, on firn fields and ice slopes, as well as climbing skills and good physical condition, above all high alpine experience is necessary here. Take a picture with your GPS or you from the summit cross where an actual date can be seen. You can also write the actual date on a sheet of paper.

Another alternative is the official mountain guide certificate for the Grossglockner ascent.  This is to upload with the photo together with your GPS or you from the summit cross.
