Moliceiro

O moliceiro é um barco de trabalho da região lagunar do Rio Vouga, a Ria de Aveiro.
Tal como o seu nome indica, o moliceiro era utilizado para a apanha do moliço. O moliço é o nome vulgar atribuído à vegetação que cresce submersa nas águas da ria usado para adubagem dos terrenos agrícolas da região. Para facilitar a apanha do moliço o moliceiro é um barco de borda baixa, habitualmente com um comprimento de 15 metros e uma largura de 2,5 metros. Tradicionalmente os meios de propulsão são a vela, a vara e a sirga sendo possível a navegação em águas poucos profundas.
Este barco tornou-se num ex-líbris da cidade de Aveiro. A sua proa e ré embelezam os canais da cidade com as suas pinturas compostas por texto e imagem. Eram e são uma forma de comunicação que relata a atualidade, homenageia figuras queridas ou satiriza outras indesejadas.
Atualmente o moliceiro é essencialmente usado para fins turísticos.

Moliceiro is a boat of work in the estuary of the Vouga River, Ria de Aveiro.
As its name indicates, moliceiro was used to pick up a seagrass called moliço. Moliço is the common name given to the plants that grow under saline water and used to fertilize the fields of the reagion. To facilitate the catching of the seagrass, the moliceiro is a vessel with low edges, usually with 15 meters (aprox. 49 ft) of length and 2,5 meters (aprox. 8 ft) of width. Traditionally, this vessel moves with the sail, a rope to tow the boat and a staff wich allows the boat to sail in shallow waters.
This boat became an ex-libris of Aveiro. Its bow and stern embellish the channels of the city with its paintings composed by text and images. They were and still are a way of communication that relates the present, honor loved figures or satirize unwanted ones.
Nowadays the moliceiro is essentially used for tourism.
