Hans Peter Hanssen, dagligt kaldt H. P. Hanssen.

Du kan læse talen her.

Cachen bliver frigivet i dag på 101 årsdagen for den skelsættende tale.

Hans Peter Hanssen, referred to as H. P. Hanssen.

From 1896 to 1918 H.P. Hanssen represented the danish people in southern Jutland in Berlin, at first in "landdagen" and later in "rigsdagen".

He achieved important results, but his pragmatic politics gave him some opponents in the danish camp. He also published the local newspaper in Aabenraa called "Hejmdal".

Mainly due to his efforts the question of the border was brought up again and resolved democratically through voting in two zones.

The organisation for danish leaning people in Schleswig, "Vælgerforeningen for Nordslesvig" ("Voters Union for Northern Schleswig") specified with the Aabenraa resolution in November 1918 the demand for a block voting in the area north of the line between Tønder and Kruså, and a municipal voting in the area south of the line, who demanded it.The resolution was decided af the "Folkehjem" ("Peoples Home") in Aabenraa November 17th, and H.P. Hanssen declared it in his speech from the balcony here in front of 3000 people.

You can read the speech here (in danish).
