Välkommen till Selånger!
Redan på järnåldern var Selånger en viktig knutpunkt för handeln mellan Medelpad och Norge. På den tiden nådde havet ända hit upp och det som idag är Selångersjön var då en havsvik och Selånger hade en egen hamn. Enligt traditionen landsteg Olof den Helige här våren 1030 på sin färd mot Norge för att återta sin krona. Hamnen fick senare namnet S:t Olofs hamn. De följande 500 åren utgjorde hamnen i Selånger utgångspunkt för de pilgrimsföljen som färdades mot S:t Olofs egen stan, Nidaros (nuvarande Trondheim). Även idag startar den populära pilgrimsleden S:t Olofsleden här och det finns ett nybyggt pilgrimscentrum i området som är väl värt att besöka för den som är intresserad.
Den äldsta kyrkan i området upfördes i trä på 1000-talet men ersattes på 1200-talet av en kyrka i sten. Stenkyrkans äldsta delar är alltså från 1200-talet, men vissa tillbyggnader gjordes och delar av ruinen dateras till 1400-talet. När den nya kyrkan, som man kan se uppe på höjden, stod klar 1781 övergavs den gamla medeltidskyrkan som fick förfalla tills den slutligen rasade 1841. 1928-29 restaurerades ruinen till nuvarande skick. Ruinen används fortfarande till gudstjänster och musikarrangemang under sommarhalvåret.
För att logga cachen behöver du svara på följande två frågor:
1. Inne i ruinen finns ett antal stående stenar med inskriptioner på. Hur många stenar är det?
2. Den sten som står närmast den västra ingången har en liten figur i övre högra hörnet, vad föreställer den?

Welcome to Selånger!
Already in the Iron Age, Selånger was an important hub for the trade between Medelpad and Norway. At that time, the sea was reaching all the way up here and what is today the Selångerlake was then a sea bay and Selånger had their own harbour. According to tradition, Olof the Holy landed here in spring 1030 on his journey to Norway to reclaim his crown. The harbour was later named S: t Olof's harbour. The following 500 years, the port in Selånger was the starting point for the pilgrimage that traveled towards S:t Olof's own town, Nidaros (current Trondheim). Even today, the popular pilgrim trail S: t Olofsleden starts here and there is a newly built pilgrim center in the area that is well worth visiting for anyone who is interested.
The oldest church in the area was made of wood in the 11th century but was replaced in the 13th century by a church in stone. The oldest parts of the ruins are thus from the 13th century, but some extensions were made and parts of the ruin date to the 15th century. When the new church, which you can see up at the height, stood ready in 1781 the old medieval church was abandoned and left to decay until it finally collapsed in 1841. 1928-29, the ruin was restored to its present state. The ruin is still used for worship services and music events during the summer.
To meet the requirements to log the cache you need to answer the following two questions:
1. Inside the ruin there are a number of standing stones with inscriptions on. How many stones are there?
2. The stone closest to the western entrance has a small figure in the upper right corner, what does it portray?
