Femörehuvud finns omnämnt redan på 1400-talet. Erik XIV ställde som villkor att borgarna skulle hålla lots för konungens skepp, mot detta fick de bedriva strömmingsfiske. Hundratals är de seglare och sjöfarare, som ända från för vikingatiden fram till våra dagar beskådat Femörehuvud från sjösidan, men ganska få har ändå sett det från land. I mitten av 1800-talet gick segelskutan Anna-Britta på grund och sjönk utanför Femörehuvud på mindre än fem minuter. Pricken som skulle utmärka farleden hade slitits loss i den starka sjögången. En fotogenfyr tändes på platsen för första gången 1867 och den sista fyren släcktes 1974.

Feminine heads are mentioned as early as the 14th century. Erik XIV stipulated as a condition that the citizens should hold pilotage for the king's ships, against which they were allowed to conduct herring fishing.
