Geocache Description:

10 August 2019, 13:00 - 16:00

Welcome to a double-header of an event - both the annual SideTracked Day (celebrating the 12th Anniversary of the first SideTracked cache being placed) and the 58th monthly Mardle get together!  A bit about each...

SideTracked Day 2019 - 12th Anniversary

The SideTracked cache series was started in 2007 when the first cache was placed at Evesham station in Worcestershire, and has since spread all across the UK (and beyond!).  More can be found at the SideTracked Series website. There is currently a SideTracked cache not may metres from the event's location celebrating the Wymondham end of the local preserved railway.

There is also a main-line station in Wymondham (to which the preserved line is still connected) and there just might be something coming for that...

Mardle #58 - Getting SideTracked in Wymondham

This is the monthly meet up for the local (Norfolk, Suffolk and surrounding counties) Geocaching community, but if you happen to be visiting the area in August we'd love to meet you too, all are welcome!  These events range from simple picnics like this, meeting up in pubs and other facilities which include occasional quizzes and the like, the Christmas meal in December, plus the annual mammoth Mardle camping weekend at the end of May each year.

A Mardle is a name given to a monthly meeting of Geocachers from the Norfolk and Suffolk area. They are held at different locations every month. The word means to chat or natter and seems very appropriate for the monthly gatherings.

We would love to see as many of you there and look forward to good weather (we hope!).  I would suggest you bring suitable clothing depending on how the forecast is looking nearer the time.  The site is a level area of grass just off the Tiffey trail footpath so blankets and/or picnic chairs etc would be recommended - there are one or two benches but not movable! While the spot planned for the event is up a small incline, there is a level wheelchair accessible footpath running through the whole park so I trust that there should not be any access issues for anyone.

This is the view of and from GZ:

Please note that at the northern end of the area is the river Tiffey - it's not the biggest water course (more a stream) but it's un-fenced so if you have small children please ensure they are monitored as the organisers cannot be held responsible for them (sorry).

I have included a number of way-points for various car-park options as the nearest is apt to get full given it's holiday season and the preserved railway will be running.   The car-park nearby is not surfaced, so you may prefer to park a little way off and walk in - you can park along Becketswell if you can find a space, else there are a number of options available.  I've also noted the public toilets plus Wymondham Town centre, which has a number of food outlets.  There is also a small convenience store near the Town Green car-park.

My thanks to Wymondham Town Council for granting me permission to hold this event at Becketswell. They have asked us to ensure we take all litter home (as I know we would), and highlighted that this is a public area and an alcohol free zone.
