Geocache Description:

04 June 2019, 18:00 - 20:00

Welcome to the Frederick Puzzler's Corner!

This is a monthly event to encourage puzzle solving in the geocaching community, and all are welcome.

June 4th is National Cheese Day

Did you know that, on average, Americans consume 31 pounds of cheese a year?  And we are not among the top 5 consumers in the world!  Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, snacks - it’s a pretty universal foodstuff.  As a part of our diet, cheese predates recorded history, going back as far as 10,000 years.  Cheesemaking had become a sophisticated enterprise by the time the Roman Empire came into being.

Cheese is made from the pressed curds of milk, usually from cow, goat, sheep, even buffalo.  The flavor and texture of cheeses are influenced by temperature, spices, and the aging process, as well as the diet of the animal the milk came from.  You can find hard cheeses and soft, fresh and aged; and cheeses made almost anywhere in the world.  Depending on who you ask, there are between 800 and 1400 varieties of cheese today, classified by texture and taste.  Many types are little known and hard to find.

How do you enjoy your cheese - grilled cheese sandwich, fondue, on pizza, in a salad, cheese soup, cheesecake, mac-n-cheese?  How many different ways can you eat cheese on this date to celebrate?  Or, if you must go dairy-free, how about a cheesy movie?  Cheese pairs well as a snack with pepperoni (just cut ‘em up and alternate bites).  Some say it also pairs well with fruit or wine.  This is a good opportunity to try a cheese variety you’ve never eaten before, so let’s pay homage to fromage!!  (If you haven’t been exposed to it, I don’t recommended digging into the limburger.  Unless you’re already standing in the middle of a crowded cattle field, where you won’t notice the smell…)

If you truly can’t tolerate cheese - whether edible or spoken - go Hug Your Cat today.  (I can has CHEEZburger?)

And now, for the usual spiel…

This event is open to all cachers, no matter what your statistics say or whether you even like puzzles!  Newbies and addicts, socialites and lone wolves, mark you calendar.

If you've got a puzzle or mystery cache that's currently got you stumped and you'd like to pick some brains, this event is for you!  Zombies are not welcome here though, so please leave your pets at home - we want everyone to leave with the brains they brought.

This event has evolved to a think-tank type gathering, with everyone collaborating on the latest tantalizing quizzler on their radar.  Generally, the learning seems to come from working with others to solve a targeted teaser, but there may be a short tutorial thrown in once in a while.  You don't have to work on puzzles to enjoy this, as there are plenty of stories to be heard.  However, you'll have plenty of others to commiserate with, and you might discover someone has solved a puzzle using a similar technique.  We continue to see successes and progress at each gathering.

For the puzzle junkies, bring your puzzle paraphernalia - flagged caches, laptop or tablet (Wi-Fi is available), theories, library card, worksheets, (sp)eye glasses, HTML color code charts, Enigma machine, abacus, scratch paper (don’t forget your writing instrument) - you never know who, or what, will show up, from which you can gain an advantage.  Maybe you’ve recently cracked a tough one and want to see the wheels spinning while others tackle it - that can be loads of fun!  Yes, we have regular head-slapping moments!

If you have a specific puzzle or puzzling topic you'd like help with, feel free to make note of it in your Will Attend log.
