Northern Lights GeoTour is a series or 12 caches in Saariselkä and Kiilopää areas in Finnish Lapland. The caches will take you into the world of the northern lights and present facts and myths about the aurora borealis phenomenon. All the caches are family friendly and accessible throughout a year.
Tulikettu
Tarina kertoo, että Suomessa revontulet sai aikaan tulikettu. Tulikettu oli musta kettu, jonka häntä kipinöi. Ketun juostessa sen kyljet iskeytyivät puihin, kettu hankasi kylkeään tunturiin tai sen häntä hipaisi lumihankeen. Silloin kipunat sinkoilivat taivaalle ja repolaisen omat tulet syttyivät.
Kehittyneimmän tarinan mukaan kuunvalo heijastuu tuliketun taivaalle huiskaisemista lumihiutaleista. Tulirepo tai tulikko on myyttinen eläin. Se oli aikoinaan metsästäjän unelma ja toi mukanaan rikkautta ja kuuluisuutta.
Kätkö
Kätkössä on logivihko, kynä ja leimasimena toimiva reijittäjä. Kätkön ovat rakentaneet Leijona55 ja Metsähiipijä.
Northern Lights GeoTour
GeoTourin omaa geokolikkoa on myytävänä rajoitettu määrä leimattua GeoTour-passia vastaan. Sinun tulee käydä vähintään kuudella GeoTourin kätköllä sekä leimata passisi kätköstä löytyvillä reijittäjillä. The Finnish word for the aurora, "revontulet", literally means "fox's fire". The Firefox is a mythical creature in the form of a black fox with sparks on its tail. Catching the elusive Firefox was thought to bring fame and fortune to the hunter. As the Firefox runs past the trees and fells in the landscape, its tail flicks through the snow, sending sparks to light up the sky. A later version of the legend describes the aurora as moonlight reflecting from the snow flicked into the sky by the Firefox.
Northern Lights GeoTour coins are available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must present the punched passport in order to buy a coin (maximum of one black and one purple coin per Username).
