Le Toît du massif des Vosges : 1424m
Cette cache est située Au Grand Ballon (en allemand : Belchen, en alsacien : Grosser Belchen) qui est le point culminant du massif des Vosges, de la région Grand Est et du département du Haut-Rhin. Il est situé à 25 km au nord-ouest de Mulhouse dont il domine visuellement l'agglomération. Certains l'appellent encore "Ballon de Guebwiller", du nom de la ville la plus proche, située à 8 km à l'est, à vol d'oiseau. Il s'élève à 1 424 mètres.
Le sommet est équipé depuis 1997 d'un radar servant à l'aviation civile, pour la gestion du trafic aérien du centre de contrôle régional de Reims ainsi qu'à l'approche des aéroports internationaux de Mulhouse et Strasbourg. Entouré d'un belvédère circulaire, ce bâtiment a été dessiné par Claude Vasconi. Le centre du radôme se trouve précisément à l'altitude de 1435,5 mètres et la table d'orientation à 1431 m. Depuis ce point la limite de visibilité théorique est de l'ordre de 120 km en direction du nord de la plaine d'Alsace. Sur le flanc est, un relais radioamateur est implanté à l'arrivée des remontées mécaniques. Le radar est situé sur le ban de la commune de Goldbach, retenue pour le dépôt du permis de construire.
Vous vous promènerez dans une zone naturelle protégée, vous devez rester sur les sentiers balisés, la cache y est accessible.

This cache is located at the Grand Ballon (in German: Belchen, in Alsatian: Grosser Belchen) which is the culmination of the Vosges massif, the Grand Est region and the Haut-Rhin department. Some still call it Ballon de Guebwiller, the name of the nearest town, located 8 km to the east, as the crow flies. It is 1,424 meters high.

Surrounded by a circular belvedere, this building was designed by Claude Vasconi. The center of the radome is precisely at the altitude of 1435.5 meters and the orientation table at 1431 m. On the east flank, a radio amateur relay is located at the arrival of the lifts. The radar is located on the bank of the municipality of Goldbach, selected for the filing of the building permit.
