Il Forte di Monte Ricco si trova sull’omonima altura, già da epoca preromana destinata a una funzione difensiva. Nell’Altomedioevo ospitò un castello la cui torre è rappresentata nello stemma del Cadore assieme a quella di Botestagno. Dal 1420 il castello divenne sede del Capitano inviato da Venezia e le sue sorti seguirono quelle della Serenissima. Il Regno d’Italia vi fece edificare due fortificazioni: Batteria Castello e il Forte, includendole nel sistema difensivo contro l’Austria-Ungheria. Nel 1918 dopo Caporetto furono fatte saltare dall’esercito austriaco. Nel 2007 per volontà del Comune di Pieve ha inizio il recupero del Forte concluso nel 2017 in collaborazione con la Soprintendenza Belle Arti e Paesaggio e grazie al determinante sostegno della Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Verona, Vicenza, Belluno e Ancona.

Il Forte è raggiungibile solamente a piedi, con breve passeggiata panoramica (dieci minuti), dal parcheggio di Piazza Martiri della Libertà, di fronte al Museo dell’Occhiale.

The Fort is named after the Monte Ricco on which it stands and that already had a defensive role in pre-Roman times. In the Early Middle Ages, it was occupied by a castle, whose tower, with that of Botestagno, features in the Cadore coat of arms. In 1420 the castle housed the Captain sent from Venice and its fate became that of the Serenissima. The Reign of Italy had two fortifications built: Castello Battery and the Fort, including them in the defensive system against the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1918 after Caporetto they were blown up by the Austrian army. In 2007 the Municipality of Pieve undertook their restoration, completed in 2017 in collaboration with the Fine Arts and Landscape Office and thanks to the significant sponsorship of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of Verona, Vicenza, Belluno, and Ancona.

The Fort is reachable through a short panoramic walk (ten minutes) starting from Piazza Martiri della Libertà’s parking lot opposite the Museo dell’Occhiale.

Das Fort von Monte Ricco befindet sich auf dem gleichnamigen Hügel, bereits aus einer vorrömischen Zeit, die für eine Verteidigungsfunktion bestimmt ist. Im frühen Mittelalter befand sich hier eine Burg, deren Turm zusammen mit dem von Botestagno im Wappen von Cadore dargestellt ist. Ab 1420 wurde das Schloss Sitz des von Venedig gesandten Kapitäns, dessen Schicksal dem der Serenissima folgte. Das Königreich Italien ließ dort zwei Befestigungen errichten: Batteria Castello und das Fort, darunter auch das Verteidigungssystem gegen Österreich-Ungarn. 1918 wurden sie nach Caporetto von der österreichischen Armee gesprengt. Dank des Willens der Gemeinde Pieve im Jahr 2007 begann die Restaurierung der Festung in Zusammenarbeit mit der Aufsichtsbehörde für bildende Künste und Landschaft und dank der entscheidenden Unterstützung der Stiftung Cassa di Risparmio in Verona, Vicenza, Belluno und Ancona.
