El doctor Velasco y su esposa tenían una única hija: Conchita, una niña que a los quince años contrajo unas fiebres tifoideas. El doctor Velasco, en contra de las recomendaciones de otros médicos, decidió tratarla él. No sólo no se curó sino que la joven finalmente murió.
El doctor Velasco enloqueció y acabó encerrándose en su vivienda en el Museo Nacional de Antropología. Obtuvo un permiso especial (gracias a su profesión) con el que pudo conservar el cadáver de su hija en casa. La embalsamó y la vistió de novia. Además la expuso en una vitrina y la sentaba a la mesa para comer y cenar. El servicio de la casa comenzó a extender los rumores de esta extraña conducta del doctor, siendo un chisme que circulaba por toda la ciudad.
Finalmente, el doctor Velasco enterró a su hija en el patio central del museo. Al fallecer éste, fue embalsamado también y enterrado junto a su hija. Pasaron algunas años hasta que la viuda ordenó la exhumación del cadáver de su hija para ser enterrada en el cementerio de San Isidro.
En cualquier caso, pasados los años, diversos expertos apuntan a que todo lo que rodea a la hija del doctor es fruto de las supersticiones y de una leyenda para asustar a los estudiantes del Museo. Algunos llegaron a decir que incluso vieron al mismismo doctor sacando a pasear a su hija hacia el Parque de El Retiro en un cochecito rosa. La historia se mantuvo durante muchos años y de vez en cuando reaparece. Nadie la desmintió.
