L'anse de Bréhec à mi-chemin entre Paimpol et St Quay Portrieux est un site géologique très intéressant. Les formations qui affleurent sur ce tronçon de la côte appartiennent aux séries rouges du domaine nord-armoricain et reposent en discordance sur le socle briovérien local.
Sur le platier, les roches sédimentaires et le filon de roche magmatique sont recoupés par des failles.
The cove of Bréhec halfway between Paimpol and St Quay Portrieux is a very interesting geological site. The formations that outcrop on this stretch of the coast belong to the red series of the North Armorican domain and lie unconformably on the local Brieurian basement.
On the flat, the sedimentary rocks and the magmatic rock vein are intersected by faults.

There are different types of faults following the type of tectonic movement. Here are 3 examples:
- The normal fault accompanies an extension; the compartment above the fault ("roof") descends from the compartment below the fault ("wall").
- The inverse fault, or overlap accompanies a compression; the compartment above the fault ("roof") rises from the compartment below the fault ("wall").
- The recess accompanies an essentially horizontal sliding movement; the pure recesses (vertical fault and horizontal displacement) are not accompanied by any vertical movement. The recesses can be dextral or sinistral, depending on whether the compartment opposite the observer moves to the right or the left (respectively).
In geology, a horst designates a raised compartment. This uplift results from the combination of normal conjugate faults. A horst is bordered by its geological opposite, that is to say grabens, ditches collapsed.
