Geocache Description:

#OneTownOneWeed

In 2017, a weed became a small tree as it grew through an orange traffic cone at the side of a road in Huntersville, across the street from Fire Station #2. The weed flourished in the summer, only to wither in the winter. Although the station personnel may, or may not, know who was responsible, in November the tree was decorated for Christmas with ornaments and a string of lights.

The cone weed, as it became known, gained popularity, and traffic past the cone became heavier. Local schools started doing cone weed projects. Desserts featuring the cone weed appeared at the fire station. Soon the cone weed had its own social media web page, a  song, and tee shirts which were sold with proceeds going to help local families in need. National and local news media reported the story of the cone weed.

The cone weed became a beacon of hope, spreading kindness and joy throughout Huntersville.

This cache has been created to keep the story and the spirit of the cone weed alive.

Huntersville Parks and Rec have granted permission for the location of this cache.
