Awesnap: “ And once the event is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the event is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the event, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this event’s all about. Thank's to all that attended. ” - Awesnap

Geocache Description:

31 March 2019, 11:00 - 13:00

To celebrate Geocaching CITO Season 1 and the upcoming Earth Day, Featherstone Elementary School would like for you to join us for a clean up of the playgrounds and the fields at the school.

I dropped my daughter off at Learn Now Music class and walked around the school and thought "Wow, This place could usa a CITO." Within the hour I sat in my van and wrote to the Principal while I waited for my daughters lesson to finish. The very next day I received permission to have a cleanup on the grounds. We have had a lasting impact with our annual CITO's at Occoquan Elementary, Minnieville Elementary, and Fred M. Lynn Middle School, so I am really looking forward to starting a new annual tradition here at Featherstone.

Seeing broken beer bottles on the grass makes it hard to imagine that field days and recesses take place here. The school custodians do the best they can, but there is a lot of trash left here weekly. Some is from the nearby businesses, and the rest just comes with the wind. My quick walk through I found an abandoned shopping car in a creek, beer bottles, and plastic bags clinging from branches all over the campus. This CITO will resemble my first Occoquan Elemantary one in amount of trash we will be moving.

CITO stands for Cache In Trash Out. It’s the geocacher’s approach to keeping our game board (i.e. the entire planet) in great shape. Geocachers gather together to pick up trash, remove invasive species, repair trails and more! Also all geocachers who participate in a CITO between March 1st to May 31st will earn a pretty sweet new souvenir!

Featherstone Elementary School

Bags for the clean up have been provided by NoVAGO, and I will have some gloves at the starting coords. You WILL get dirty, so dress appropriately, and wear good footwear. The fields could be soggy. The wood line has thorns and some poison ivy. Your garden gloves will come in handy as well. Our planned cleanup area is marked in red on the picture below. Disabled cachers are invited as well. The school has a paved lot that could be policed easily by wheelchair.
