View of Cologne
The Deutzer bridge in Cologne is a bridge over the river Rhine. The Romans built the first Rhine crossing at this place around 310 AD, under Constantine, with a wooden construction on stone river pylons.
The present bridge was built from 1947 to 1948. The world's first steel box girder bridge.
It has a total length of 437 meters spans of 132, 184 and 121 meters and a width of 20.60 meters.
The Cologne Cathedral (officially: Hohe Domkirche Sankt Petrus) is a Roman Catholic church and the landmark of the city of Cologne. The cathedral is 157.38 meters high and was the tallest building in the world from 1880 to 1884.
The construction of the new Gothic cathedral was begun on August 15, 1248 according to a plan by master builder Gerhard von Rile.
Towards the end of the 15th century, the building intensity steadily decreased. For almost 300 years, the construction of the Cologne Cathedral rested. It gradually fell into ruin, even his demolition was considered. From this time probably comes the ironic Cologne saying that when the cathedral is finished, the world goes down.
In 1880 the cathedral was "completed" after more than 600 years of construction.
"When the dome is finished, the world goes down." The world can be reassured. The cathedral is never finished.
Antipodes (from Greek ἀντί antí "against" and πούς poús "foot", literally "antipodes", latinized Antipodes) is the name given to the areas lying on the opposite side of the earth.
With the coordinates of Cologne the antipode is -50.829935, -172.987055 (50 ° 49 '47.8 "S, 172 ° 59 '13.4 "W) and this is located just south of New Zealand in the Pacific.
But who wants to go through the center of the earth? It's too hot. If I deviate only a few degrees, I will get out at Sydney Opera House.
What a coincidence.
From Cologne the pipe symbolically shows the way up near the earth's core to the "other end of the world". Please imagine - scarce / only about 13,000 kilometers through a pipe, past the center of the earth with temperatures up to 6,000 degrees.
And every 200 meters a cache and in between the one earth cache.
