I love almost everything about Germany and am proud of my German roots so I figured I would recreate a series of caches I did in Germany here in NE Ohio. I hope you enjoy them as much as the Germans did.

Each of the people in this series were Made (born) in Germany. Later in life they immigrated to the USA and became citizens of America. Many of them had a great influence on the USA and the rest of the world. I hope that each person who completes this series learns a little bit more about how our two countries, German and The United States of America, are forever connected. So here we go! See if you can figure out who this person is or was.

To solve the mystery you need to determine the person and there year of birth and death.

HINT:

I am a man

I was born in the Polish province of Posen when it was part of the German Empire.

I am dead

Too Difficult? Maybe this will help:

I had two brothers.

I was the middle brother.

My mother was descendent of Philip III of France, Valdemar I of Denmark, Robert III of Scotland, and Edward III of England.

After World War I my family moved to Berlin.

At the age of 12 I was taken into police custody for exploding a toy wagon with fireworks.

Do you know who I am now? No?

I was very good at the Piano and Cello and considered becoming a Composer.

I graduated from the University of Berlin with a Ph.D. in physics.

In 1940 I joined the Algemeine SS.

In 1944 I was arrested by the Gestapo for being a communist sympathizer. I was released on orders from Adolph Hitler after it was realized that the important work I was doing could not continue without me. Albert Speer, though exempting me from prosecution, believed my release would have dire consequences.

In April of 1945 my brother rode his bicycle to the American forces located in Reutte and surrendered on the spot.

I was taken to the United States in 1945 as part of Operation Paperclip.

LAST HINT!!

In 1975 I received the National Medal of Science given by the President of the United States.
