Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 2019 Edition of Cache Across Maryland, hosted by the Maryland Geocaching Society. This is one of ten geocaches placed throughout the "Old Line State" in locations chosen to showcase Maryland's diverse beauty, history and terrain.  From the mountains of Western Maryland to the Atlantic Ocean, Cache Across Maryland 2019 will again demonstrate that Maryland truly is “America in Miniature”.

Each of the ten geocaches contains a code which you will use to determine the location of the CAM 2019 Picnic to be held on May 4th, 2019. The code can be found on the inside of the cache container and on the inside front cover of the logbook. Don't forget to record this code! Any geocacher who has completed all TEN of the CAM geocaches and attends the CAM Picnic on May 4th will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Cache Across Maryland 2019 commemorative geocoin in antique copper. We hope you enjoy CAM 2019!

A Tour of Emmitsburg

Emmitsburg was founded in 1785 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This 8-stop tour will take you to some historic sites and highlight the town's importance in days gone by, as well as it's growth and forward progression for the future!

During your tour, you might take some time to visit N39 41.841, W077 19.414 - The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (accessible from Stop 4-5-6 parking).  This is NOT part of the puzzle, but is a beautiful and serene waypoint containing historical information.  Visitor Center hours are 10am-5pm, Mon-Sat, and Noon-5pm Sundays.

As you travel from stage to stage, please note and heed any posted hours of operation, and rules and regulations for each site.  There are no entrance fees for any location on this tour.  The subject of Stop #3 may not be at the exact posted coordinates, but it will be nearby and obvious; you may be able to see it from outside the fence.  Note also that some areas along your path may be slippery and/or boggy, so protective footwear is recommended.
