After the succes of the first CITO we thought we would do another.
The aim today is to continue clearing and burning the invasive Holly in part of Costells Wood.
HISTORY.
Costells Wood is an ancient woodland in Scaynes Hill West Sussex.
It is approximately 56 acres in area ,44 acres belonging to The Woodland Trust and the remaining 12 acres being privately owned.
In 2015 the 12 acres were put up fpr sale having been neglected and unmanaged for many years.
PRESENT DAY
The 12 acres was bought by two local cachers Poohtiggs and Little Helper (Bob and Dawn) whose garden backed onto the woods.
To say this area was neglected and unmanaged was an understatement covered in Silver Birch, Brambles, Holly and fallen trees.
We have been clearing it bit by bit with the help of a couple of cachers Steve sadexploration and Ken martletsman and made it a pleasant area for locals and dog walkers to enjoy.
Using timber cut from fallen Oak trees we have made a couple of benches where walkers can rest.
We also provide dinking water for dogs in the hot weather.
There are many animals, birds, bluebells and other flora and fauna to see at different time of the year.
FUTURE
When we are no longer able to maintain their wood we have pledged to donate our 12 acres to he Woodland Trust thus ensuring this area will remain available for public pleasure for perpetuity.

You will need strong shoes, gardening gloves and long handled loppers if you have any.
Tea and coffee will be provided and we will take a break around mid-day so bring some lunch and picnic chairs if you wish.
Start time 10:00 and aiming to finish about 14:30 but feel free to come and go as you please.
