A little something that I discovered. Did you know March 9th is National Panic Day?

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy enthusiasts may struggle to fully embrace this holiday, but this March 9th event encourages you to indulge all of your deepest fears and let loose a rampage of unbridled hysteria. Observational practices may include—but are certainly not limited to—tearing out one’s hair, standing in public spaces and shrieking like a banshee, sobbing uncontrollably, or finally breaking ground on that underground bunker you have always dreamed of building. Better yet, just join us to overcome your fear of spiders with a fun game or your fear of heights around the north rim trail of the Gorge.

The GGA March event will be held in the classroom inside the parks interpretive center. Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center is a 16,000-square foot educational facility with rich cultural, historical and natural exhibits, offering an award-winning film. The center is named for a Georgia conservationist, counselor, and educator who devoted 30 years of her life to the preservation and wise use of natural resources.

We hope you are able to join us at this wonderful park. This may be the first time the GGA has held a meeting here. Let’s make some history! There will be a trivial question scavenger hunt and in keeping with national panic day if you’ve ever panicked over a spider while caching, we will have a jar full. The cacher guessing the closet to how many are inside gets a prize. And they may keep the spiders eeekk! Don’t worry, they won’t be real. 😁 The event will be inside the classroom. Feel free to bring a pack lunch with you. But we will also have a few trail snacks on hand inside. After the event, the ones interested will be able to take a hike around the north rim trail at 2:00 and learn some history along the way. The hike is 3 miles, round-trip, mulched surface with exposed roots. Rated moderate. This guided tour is normally a cost of $5 per person, but the park was gracious to offer it to those interested for free.

SPECIAL NOTES:
***Pet Notice: For animal safety, pets are not allowed on the gorge floor, sliding rock trail and Hurricane Falls staircase to the suspension bridge. Leashed pets are allowed on rim trails. Unfortunately they are not allowed inside the classroom. ***

***Don't forget we will also have the GGA 2019 Trackable Treasure Chest contest at the March event.The winner will receive the entire chest and the whole loot of trackables. So don't forget to bring your unactivated geocoin for a one ticket to enter the drawing. Contest will run from January through December. Drawing will be held at the December GGA meeting. With each trackable drop you may purchase up to five additional tickets. Purchase must be made at the time of the trackable drop. Cost of additional tickets is $2 each through March, then increases to $5 each or 5 for $20. This may be your last chance at the early bird price for extra tickets.***
