Geocache Description:

The Fredericton Region Museum, formerly known as the York Sunbury Museum, is a small, non-profit museum founded in 1932 by the York Sunbury Historical Society. The museum was housed in several different locations until 1959, when it moved into Officers’ Square on Queen Street in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  This year marks the 60th Anniversary in Officers’ Square.  Each cache features an exhibit or historical figure.  Find five caches to receive a limited edition Geocoin while quantities last.

Because of its strategic location, Fredericton was chosen by Governor Guy Carleton as the capital of New Brunswick in 1784.  Barracks and storehouses were soon built in the Military Compound.  The Officers’ Quarters, first built in wood and later stone, served as the home for the officers.  The administrative offices were in the wooden addition.  The British garrison left in 1869.  In 1883, the newly formed Infantry School Corps, now the Royal Canadian Regiment, was formed here.  This property is rich with history!
